ABOUT ME
It may seem strange to have been born in the mountains, specifically the Dolomites, and then become interested in wine. However it is in the mountains that I have learned to observe nature, its sights, its fruits, to smell its perfume, and try to understand, in a sort of conscious contemplation, its very soul .
I left the mountains for the plains to attend the University of Padua in order to obtain the tools of knowledge, and then on to the Tuscan hills where I attempted to tame the land and instead I learned to be tamed by the land. In Tuscany I learned to grasp the essence of the black grapes that turn into wine, and as an connoisseur of red wine I was eventually called to work in Franciacorta when “red wine” was still important there
In Franciacorta I learned to capture the most ethereal feature of wine, namely its sparkling. This was not an easy task, but since then I have been recognized as a “sparkling” tamer, the one who comes from the mountains and loves red wine. But even this is an interesting story, an important one .
After heading up several wineries, but always working under an owner, I thought it was time to strike out on my own and I began to offer my experience and expertise to several estates and owners, but also to many friends.
These ventures gave me the opportunity to learn about different regions, different people, to learn their languages and understand them, as well as make myself understood. This part of the journey was, and still is, a deep well from which I can fill my bucket of curiosity and perceive new sounds, smells, sights and thoughts. This path also resulted in a huge mosaic where my mind continues to wander to this day.
With the passage of time the feeling of deja vu grows, but I still am affected by that incurable virus of curiosity, meaning that there is always something new to discover, new places to explore, a new wine to create, and new friendships to forge.
Thus, among the ups and downs of life, I continue on the path of existence, just as my mountains do. Where am I headed? A good mountaineer knows that what matters is not the final destination, but the journey.
